CNBC reviewed a recent Deloitte Consulting survey that probed for attitudes on inflation and spending amongst 1050 consumers. The key inflation-related finding suggests inflation expectations are not anchored as the Federal Reserve likes to claim (margin of error is +/-3 percentage points):

“Nearly three-fourths, or 74 percent, said rising prices will slow their spending in coming months. Of that group, 82 percent of those over 45 said they would be affected…”

As more and more headlines in the media are joining us and catching up to the inflation story, the pressure builds on policymakers to keep the lid on inflation even as they continue to try to stimulate the economy.
