No more free parking on Saturdays…some meters will spike to two dollars an hour…and you’ll have to feed them until ten at night.

The changes will mainly affect eight so-called premium demand zones…like Adams Morgan, Georgetown and the National Mall. The rest of the city’s meters would stay at the 75 cents an hour rate.

In the span of just one year, the price to park at a downtown meter will have gone up more than 41 percent…

Beginning January 4th, rates at meters in the Loop will go up 75 cents, to $4.25 for an hour.

If you’re outside the Loop but park between North Avenue, Halsted and Roosevelt Road, you’ll pay an extra 50 cents, bringing the hourly price to park to $2.50.

Rates throughout the rest of the city will increase a quarter.

The Mayor and City Council agreed to the annual rate hikes when they signed over control of the parking meters to a private firm in exchange for just under $1.2 billion in upfront cash.

Travelers who use the economy parking lots at Los Angeles International Airport will pay $2 more per day starting Nov.19. The Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved the increase Monday for parking lots B and C, whose rates were last raised in 2002. When the increase goes into effect it will cost $10 a day to park in Lot B on 111th Street and $12 a day in  Lot C off Sepulveda Boulevard.

Universal is now charging $14 to park in the Universal garage, up $2 (a 17 percent increase).

Disney raised its parking prices to $14, also up $2.

On a related note: Many cash-strapped cities and airports have been raising parking fees (see, e.g., here, here, here, here, here, here, and here). A few cities have begun leasing out their meters to private companies (see here and here), which presumably will result in higher parking costs for consumers.
